The forest fires that broke out in Santa Barbara (California) on Friday have devastated 7,700 hectares of land so far. According to media reports, several vineyards in the mountains north of the city have also been affected. Some wineries near Los Olivos had to close after the Santa Barbara police issued evacuation orders on Saturday evening.

Despite the efforts of fire brigades and ten fire-fighting helicopters, the flames are continuing to move southwards. According to a spokesperson, the only goal right now is to keep the fire away from buildings. The National Weather Service reports that there has not been such an intense and long-lasting heatwave in this region for 20 years. Daytime temperatures of up to 46°C are forecast for the coming days. Wineries that are not directly affected by the fire fear damage to the grapes due to the heavy smoke.
