The wine industry is collecting signatures online today with the declaration "VitaeVino" to support and preserve European wine culture. VitaeVino was initiated by the Comité Européen des Entreprises Vins (CEEV), an association of European wine companies. It is a reaction to the World Health Organization (WHO) statement that there is "no health-safe alcohol consumption." This statement is increasingly being questioned by scientists.

On the website vitaevino.org, wine lovers and members of the wine industry commit to protecting the cultural asset of wine and to moderate enjoyment, which should not be equated with alcohol abuse. By signing, one specifically confirms the following points:

  • Support for the preservation of wine culture and wine heritage
  • Request for support for the important role of wine in rural areas and their economy
  • Commitment to the legitimate value of moderate wine consumption within a healthy and balanced lifestyle
  • I claim my right to enjoy wine in moderation

The declaration has already been signed in the first hours by prominent representatives of the wine industry and several members of the European Parliament.
