Spain's wine association, Federación Española del Vino (FEV), has presented a plan to combat the effects of climate change. The plan aims to achieve the following main objectives by 2029: the protection of vineyards, ensuring grape quality, and the sustainability of wine production. To this end, more technical information will be provided, and key priorities will be established.
This is the evolution of a plan that FEV designed in 2018. It reviews previous initiatives, introduces indicators for future monitoring of actions, and identifies key funding opportunities and proposals. The new five-year plan was presented to the ministers of agriculture and ecological transition at a meeting at the winery Bodegas Protos**** in Ribera del Duero.
Spain is one of the wine-producing countries most affected by climate change. In recent years, prolonged drought periods have led to significant crop failures.
