The Austrian glass manufacturer Zalto is launching the first glass specifically designed for structure-driven wines. The glass, named "Balance", was developed by Managing Director Christoph Hinterleitner and his brother Michael over two years, in collaboration with winemakers and sommeliers. It is slightly smaller than the previous Bordeaux and Burgundy glasses from the "Denk’Art" series, has a stronger bend, and shorter side walls. This design aims to highlight wines that focus less on fruit and more on structure, such as white wines with extended skin contact, skin fermentation, long yeast aging, oxidatively aged wines, or red wines made from whole grape fermentation.

The "Balance" glass is mouth-blown, "because the inner surface of the glass has a microscopically rougher texture – in contrast to the significantly smoother surface of machine-made glass,” explains Christoph Hinterleitner. “Complex wines require a mouth-blown glass.”.

The "Denk´Art" glass series was introduced in 2004 and is named after the Austrian wine expert and priest Hans Denk, who played a leading role in its development. His aim was to create a wine glass that allows the wine to present itself in a puristic manner without influence, to recede into the background, and to become practically invisible.
