The French state will support the clearing of vineyards in Bordeaux with 38 million euros instead of the previously planned 24 million euros. This amount will be made available for fallow land and renaturalisation and amounts to up to 6,000 euros per hectare. The state is thus contributing two euros for every euro that the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) gives for clearing. The CIVB has already used up the 19 million euros allocated for 2024, as demand has exceeded the planned budget. The government is now honouring the promise made by Agriculture Minister Marc Fesneau, who had pledged to increase the state subsidy from the original €24 million to €38 million.

According to estimates by industry representatives, up to 20,000 hectares of vines could be uprooted in Bordeaux. This would mean that the region would lose around one in five vines.
