The Institute of Masters of Wine has appointed five new MWs from the class of 2024. With Neil Bernardi (USA), Tone Veseth Furuholmen (Norway), Benjamin Hasko (Singapore), Victoria Mason (GB), and Wei Xing (China), the total number of active MWs increases to 421 in 30 countries. Neil Bernardi MW is the Chief Operating Officer of Colgin Cellars in Napa Valley and has over two decades of leadership experience in the wine trade. Tone Veseth Furuholmen MW from Oslo is the Senior Product Manager of the Norwegian wine monopoly, responsible for Italy, Portugal, Spain, Lebanon, and Greece. Benjamin Hasko MW is a wine expert with more than 15 years of experience in the Asia-Pacific region and has lived in Singapore for five years. Victoria Mason MW from England specializes in wines from South Africa and works as a buyer at The Wine Society. Wei Xing MW from China works as an independent wine educator and judge. He teaches WSET courses throughout China, among other things.

Back in February, Emily Brighton, Christopher Martin, Robert Mathias, Dror Nativ, and Pietro Russo passed the examination. The MW examination consists of three parts: the theoretical and practical exams at the end of the second stage and the research paper submitted at the end of the third stage. The research paper is an in-depth study on a wine-related topic from any field of natural, artistic, humanities, or social sciences. The completion of the examination is meant to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the industry.
