Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG will also be available as a single-vineyard wine from the 2020 vintage. The Consorzio has defined twelve historic single vineyard wines (Pievi), whose wines will be placed above the Riserva and the normal Nobile. For a Pieve Nobile, the proportion of Sangiovese must be at least 85 percent (otherwise: 70 percent). Only autochthonous grape varieties such as Mammolo, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo and Colorino are permitted as blending partners, while international varieties may be used for the others. Furthermore, a Pieve Nobile may only be made from the estate's own grapes. The first single-vineyard Nobile is scheduled to go on sale in 2024.
