The Sommelier Union Austria (SUA) has introduced a new concept for its wines. The SUA is the only sommelier organization in the world with its own wine line. While the "sommelier wines" were created collectively with established wineries and grape varieties since 2009, the responsibility now lies with the respective finalists of the national championship. For the premiere, the current "Best Sommelier of Austria," Maximilian Steiner from Hotel Austria & Bellevue in Obergurgl, made the selection.

The wines with the title AMAX (an acronym for siblings Anna and Max Steiner) come from the wineries Anton Bauer from Wagram, Pia Strehn**** and Albert Gesellmann****, both from Mittelburgenland. There are two Grüner Veltliners, two rosés, and two red wine cuvées. The medium-bodied premium wines are available for 26.40 euros each, while the stronger platinum wines in the reserve category are available for 48 euros each via the SUA website and are also served by the glass in some restaurants. All wines are equipped with individual artist labels.

"Accompanying the wines from the vine to the bottle underscores my love and passion for it. Each wine tells a story that comes alive in the glass," explained Maximilian Steiner. Annemarie Foidl, president of the SUA, emphasized that the proceeds from the sommelier wines are an important financial component for funding projects and promoting young sommeliers. The SUA, with more than 2,000 members, is one of the largest sommelier organizations in the world.
