The 16th auction of artistically designed bottles from the Ornellaia winery ***** (Tuscany) raised 303,000 euros. This amount will be used to support the "Mind's Eye" programme of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. It helps visually impaired and blind people to experience and enjoy art through multi-sensory experiences.
Each Ornellaia vintage is given a name that describes the character of the wine and is then interpreted by a contemporary artist. The 2021 vintage is called "La Generosità" and was designed by the Italian artist Marinella Senatore (pictured). In addition to a work of art that can be seen at the winery, some limited-edition bottles will also feature the motif. The auction held by Sotheby's included numbered double magnums signed by Senatore, Impériales (six litres) and a Salmanazar (nine litres) of Ornellaia 2021. In addition, one bottle in each six-litre box will bear the label design.
Through Ornellaia's support for Mind's Eye, the project is now available in the three Guggenheim museums in Venice, New York and Bilbao.
