Gorelli - Lonardi - Russo

The three Italian Masters of Wine Gabriele Gorelli, Andrea Lonardi and Pietro Russo have bought a vineyard in Sicily together - and will do so in autumn 2022. The lighthouse project called "Officina del Vento" comprises one hectare of vines in the Stagnone nature reserve near Marsala. The three friends produced wine from the Grillo grape variety there for the first time in 2023, with the first 4,000 bottles expected to be available by the end of the summer.

The grapes were matured in steel tanks and only a small proportion in barriques. "We want you to taste the grape variety and the sea, not the wood. Great white wines can be produced here in Marsala, and we want to prove that with this project," explains Pietro Russo, who oversaw the entire winemaking process in a local wine cellar. Russo, who only became a Master of Wine in 2024, comes from Sicily and works as an oenologist at Donnafugata****.

"It is not a project with which we want to make money, but an opportunity to give a future to an area that is particularly suitable for viticulture and is now abandoned," say the three Masters of Wine about the location and the idea behind the project.
