The Tuscan top wine Masseto gets its own winery. This is reported by the British "Drinks Business". Since the first vintage in 1987, the red wine has been produced by the Supertuscan producer Ornellaia, who also owns the limestone vineyard on which the Masseto vines stand. The new, now independent winery is currently being built on the Ornellaia site. It will be built underground, according to a design by the Zito+Mori studio architects, directly under the building where the Masseto is currently being built.

In recent years, the Frescobaldi family, who own the estate, has marketed the Ornellaia and Masseto wines strictly separately. Now, with the building project, the separation is also taking place spatially. The new cellar is to be put into operation for the 2018 harvest. The team of winemakers led by oenologist Axel Heinz has also been expanded: Eleonora Marconi from Frescobaldi's Castello di Nipozzano now also works for the Masseto.
