The 24-year-old Hannah Wetschka from Burgenland was elected as the new Austrian Wine Queen in Eisenstadt. She succeeds Sophie Hromatka from the Traisental and will represent Austrian wine for one year both domestically and internationally. Wetschka is a graduate of the Higher Federal School for Wine and Fruit Growing in Klosterneuburg and works at the family winery Agerlhof Wetschka in Jois. She has previously been the Burgenland Wine Queen.
The Austrian Winegrowing President Johannes Schmuckenschlager congratulated the new Wine Queen and also made it clear that there will be no debate in Austria regarding the female appointment of a wine royalty, as is currently the case in Germany. The Austrian wine sovereigns are all experts who can present both rhetorically and with expertise.
