The list of "The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2022" has been announced. In first place in the competition organised by the San Pellegrino beverage group is Geranium in Copenhagen, which was ranked second in 2021. It is followed by Central in Lima (Peru) and Disfrutar in Barcelona. The best-placed restaurant in the German-speaking world is Steirereck in Vienna in 13th place. The best restaurant in Germany is Nobelhart&Schmutzig in Berlin, also winner of the Villa Massa Highest Climber Award, in 17th place. The Tim Raue restaurant in Berlin is in 26th place.
The list is compiled by over 1,000 experts. Since 2019, the former winning restaurants are no longer eligible to vote. They are included in the "Hall of Fame" list "Best of the Best", which critics say dilutes the voting.
Copenhagen remains the culinary capital of the world after last year's win by Noma. At Geranium, chef Rasmus Kofoed focuses on meatless cuisine, purely local seafood and fish, and organically or biodynamically grown vegetables from Scandinavia. Back in May, Leonor Espinosa of Restaurant Leo in Bogota, Colombia, was named World's Best Female Chef. Her restaurant is ranked 48th.
