In the new French documentary film "Un Point C'est Tout!" ("That's all!") by Pierre-Paul Guidicelli, vine nursery owner Lilian Bérillon talks to renowned winegrowers about the uncertain future of viticulture. Wine personalities such as Anselme Selosse, Jean-Louis Chave, Peter Sisseck and Lalou Bize-Leroy talk about the major challenges they are facing.

The initial situation is alarming, as many renowned vineyards are threatened by a slow decline: the life expectancy of the vines is falling dramatically. According to Bérillon, global warming is not the only culprit, but also the lack of diversity in the vines. The planting material is industrially produced and not adaptable, and this is still not sufficiently taken into account by many winegrowers.

The winegrowers in the film agree that viticulture has taken a wrong turn and that urgent changes are needed. According to Jean-Louis Chave, there is "still hope", but time is pressing, as more and more young vines are dying prematurely every year. It is "a real disaster" when you consider that the great wines come from vines "that are at least 40 years old", recalls Lalou Bize-Leroy.

"With this documentary, I wanted to open the discussion and shed light on the way the entire winegrowing industry works. It needs to seriously rethink its approach. I wanted to take a stand and also let the wineries and champagne houses with whom I have worked for many years have their say," says Lilian Bérillon.

But the film should also give hope and show solutions that have been found so far. There are certainly prospects for future generations, says Bérillon.

The documentary film can be seen in French with English subtitles.
