The Krug champagne house is building a new production facility in Ambonnay under the name "Joseph 2.0". The name refers to company founder Joseph Krug, who founded the house in 1843. The site is located in the direct vicinity of the 0.68 ha Grand Cru vineyard Clos d'Ambonnay owned by Krug. In the planned twin buildings with a total area of 9,400 square metres on three floors, "the entire production from pressing to bottling will take place", explains Julie Cavil, Krug's head cellarer. The base wines will be matured in 330 tanks in five underground cellars.

For maturation, disgorging and packaging, the bottles will be transported to the head office in Reims. The "sustainable design of the buildings" envisage the optimised use of rainwater and daylight as well as the use of low-carbon materials. The plant should be ready for operation by the 2023 grape harvest.
