The market research institute YouGov in London has determined the changes in alcohol consumption behaviour during the Corona pandemic in the study "Consumer goods in a crisis". According to the statistics, 19 percent of people worldwide drink more alcohol on average than before the crisis. In a European comparison, 24 percent of the British were the most likely to say that their consumption of alcohol had increased during the pandemic, while Germans were the least likely to say this with eleven percent. In between are the Danes and the Swedes with a share of twelve percent, the Italians and the French with 15 percent.

Consumption has also risen noticeably in Asia. For almost three out of ten Indians (29 percent), alcohol consumption has increased since the outbreak of the pandemic. India thus leads the international comparison, followed by China with 27 percent. Around 19,000 people in 17 countries were surveyed for the study in December 2020.
