Wines from Burgundy have recorded growth in export volumes of around 0.8 per cent in 2020 compared to 2019, despite the Corona restrictions. The frontrunners here are the white wines from the AOC Chablis and Petit-Chablis. They record a growth of 7.5 per cent in volume and 5.7 per cent in value. They are followed by the Mâconnais appellations with an increase of 8.7 percent in volume and 1.8 percent in value. Sales within Europe and the French overseas territories in particular increased significantly, rising by 10.8 per cent in volume and 11.6 per cent in value there. However, due to US tariffs and Brexit, sales to non-EU countries fell by 8.4 per cent in volume and 7.3 per cent in revenue.

"We are staying the course, which is remarkable given the difficulties of our neighbouring countries," said François Labet, president of Burgundy's winegrowers' association BIVB. "Some markets have recovered spectacularly," he stressed, "including the UK, which has now overtaken the USA in sales and become our most important customer. We have also made great progress in Sweden, Norway and Canada. The figures in Taiwan, Singapore and Korea are also developing very well."
