The first Austrian quality wine 2024 received its test number on August 20 – three weeks earlier than the previous year. The winery Beim Gangl in Illmitz on Lake Neusiedl has submitted its young wine named "da Ofang" ("The Beginning"), which will be bottled in a few days. It consists of Bouvier grapes that were harvested on August 5. Only in 2007 did the harvest start one day earlier.
Martin Gangl, who produces a young wine from Bouvier every year, harvested the grapes early in the morning to take advantage of the cool temperatures. He mentions a harvest quantity that is one third lower than in 2023. Bad weather during flowering, frost, and hail have reduced the quantity. The harvest of white wine grapes is currently in full swing in Illmitz.
