Winzer Krems has completed the largest investment programme in the history of the Austrian wine industry. With a volume of 37 million euros, the winery was renovated with state-of-the-art fermentation and cooling technology and a capacity of 7.9 million litres. Furthermore, the storage hall was provided with a green roof that stores water, reduces the CO2 content in the air and has a temperature-regulating effect on the rooms below. Already at the beginning of 2022, one of the most modern bottling plants in Europe was put into operation, which optimises the entire process from wine filtration, sterilisation and bottling to packaging.

In addition, a 377 kWp photovoltaic system was built and the energy supply was switched from gas to district heating. An increase in capacity was not the goal of the renovations, but a further increase in quality, as chairman Ludwig Holzer said, who also emphasised the sustainable construction method. No grassland was built over, but existing areas were used. Improvements in the working conditions for the employees were also a focus of the entire project In Focus: More daylight, a special noise protection ceiling and optimised paths provide a more pleasant working environment.

The contracts for the renovations were largely awarded to companies in the region. Winzer Krems, with 730 members and a contracted vineyard area of 1,200 hectares, is Austria's largest producer of quality wine.
