The renowned and influential Alto Adige winemaker Paolo Foradori from the J. Hofstätter winery died a few days ago at the age of 85. He was considered the "father of Pinot Noir" in South Tyrol, shaped the development of Gewürztraminer and also significantly advanced the region around Mazzon as a wine-growing area. He also had a great influence on the development of the "Vigna" label to distinguish single-vineyard wines on the label.

Foradori was born in Bolzano in 1935 and comes from a family from Trentino. As early as the 1920s, his father, a lawyer and wine lover, bought vineyards near Mazzon. In 1959, he married Sieglinde Oberhofer, the grandniece of the vineyard owner Josef Hofstätter in Tramin. He turned this into the first family-run business in the region with vineyards on both sides of South Tyrol.
