From now on, the "Certified Master Sommelier" qualification in Germany will reach Bachelor level. This means that the training programme offered by the German Wine and Sommelier School (DWS) offers extended career opportunities for sommeliers. Participants in the further training programme also receive a "master craftsman bonus" of 2,000 euros as financial support.

For the Bachelor's level qualification, the certified master sommelier training programme has been assigned to the German Qualifications Framework (DQR) level 6. DQR6 means complex and rapidly changing requirements.

The prerequisite for participation is completed training as an IHK wine consultant or IHK-certified sommelier. Certification by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) means that these professional titles are recognised under public law. The IHK Certified Master Sommelier (DQR6) courses can also be combined with the internationally recognised WSET® Level 4 Diploma in Wines. They begin annually in June in co-operation with the Weincampus in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.
