Santa Margherita

The Santa Margherita wine group has presented the tank-fermented sparkling wine "Harmonia Mundi", whose grapes come from the oldest urban vineyard in Venice. The vineyard is located in the cloisters of the church of San Francesco della Vigna directly on the lagoon on the northern edge of the city. Grapes have been grown here since 1253.

Since 2019, the agronomists of Santa Margherita have been revitalising the vineyard. The vines are cultivated using the traditional Alberello training method and perennial flower species are sown between the rows of vines. All work in the vineyard is carried out exclusively by hand.

Harmonia Mundi is made from the Glera and Malvasia grape varieties, the typical indigenous white grape varieties. It will be released in a limited edition of just 1,107 numbered bottles from the 2022 vintage: this is a symbolic number, as it represents the total length of the vineyard in metres.

"For us, the recovery of urban vineyards is one of the most important projects that can and should be carried out in the wine industry to keep history and its traditions alive," says Stefano Marzotto, Vice President of the Santa Margherita Wine Group.
