More German inns, restaurants and hotels than in September are planning to raise their prices. This is the result of a recent survey by the market researchers of the Munich Ifo Institute. According to the survey, 87.4 percent of the catering establishments questioned said they would soon put higher prices on their cards. The figure for hotels is 61 percent. In the food trade, even every company surveyed (100 per cent) is currently planning price increases. This means that significantly more expensive prices are to be expected across the board in the wine and gastronomy scene.

The biggest price drivers have been energy and food for months. In September 2022, energy cost 43.9 per cent more than a year earlier, according to preliminary calculations by the Federal Statistical Office, while food rose by 18.7 per cent. "Unfortunately, the wave of inflation is not likely to subside yet," expects Ifo's head of business cycle Timo Wollmershäuser, "especially for gas and electricity there is still a lot in the price pipeline." The institute surveys several thousand companies every month.
