At a Sotheby's wine auction in Beaune (Burgundy) on 2 July, several price records were broken and a total turnover of two million euros was achieved. The auction, which was also attended by online bidders from 29 countries, consisted exclusively of Burgundy from the cellar of Taiwanese entrepreneur and collector Pierre Chen.

The highest price was achieved by six bottles of Chevalier Montrachet d'Auvenay 2009 for 106,250 euros. Just below this were twelve bottles of Armand Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Bèze 1990, which found a buyer for 100,000 euros. According to Sotheby's, the auction achieved a total of eight world bottle price records:

  • Three bottles of DRC Échezeaux 2005 achieved a price of 10,000 euros per bottle. According to the auction house, this is double the previous record price.
  • Three bottles of DRC Montrachet 2007 were knocked down for over 15,800 euros each. This is 50 per cent more than the highest price per bottle to date.
