In their first year of existence, the three Cités des vins de Bourgogne welcomed 80,000 visitors. The site in Beaune attracted 65,000 people, or 80 per cent of the visitors. In addition to the exhibitions on wine and viticulture in Beaune, the site in Chablis has a wine bar and the one in Mâcon has several conference rooms.

As the head of the Cité's culture and communication department, Chloé Butet, explained, 80 per cent of all visitors come from France, half of them from the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. The aim of anchoring the Cité regionally has thus been achieved. Most foreign visitors come from Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Olivier Le Roy, Managing Director of the Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne, explained that "wine novices and connoisseurs" had had a positive experience of the visit. "The first group says that the visit is very informative and accessible at the same time, while the second is often impressed that they can still learn something despite their knowledge of the subject," he said. Le Roy emphasised that many families also came during the school holidays and that both children and teenagers found the visit interesting. In the original planning before the pandemic, the city of Beaune had expected 150,000 visitors a year.
