Moselle winegrower Ernie Loosen from the Dr Loosen**** winery is selling three wines from his Zach. Bergweiler-Prüm - Erben in a limited edition via the Place de Bordeaux trading centre. The wines come from 130-year-old ungrafted vines from the famous Wehlener Sonnenuhr, one of the Mosel's best-known vineyards: a dry Riesling Grosses Gewächs (GG), a semi-dry Riesling Kabinett and an Auslese with a botrytis tone.
With this project, Ernie Loosen is paying tribute to his ancestor Zacharias Bergweiler-Prüm. Since the 1990s, Loosen has been experimenting with wines that were produced using traditional winemaking methods before the major changes brought about by the German wine law of 1971. Since 2012, he has been producing a line of Prädikat wines that remain true to these historical standards. "I wanted to gain experience with very natural viticulture and winemaking, just like my great-grandfather did," Loosen said. "He lived at a time when German Rieslings enjoyed the highest reputation worldwide. So it makes sense to me that we should try to produce wines like we did back then."
The negociants are Barrière Frères, Compagnie Médociane des Grands Crus, Crus et Domaines de France, CVBG, Ulysse Cazabonne and Twins, represented by Bureau des Grands Vins.
