The German Wine and Sommelier School (DWS) is offering the Champagne Specialist CIVC compact seminar for the first time. The training is supported by the industry association Comité Champagne (CIVC) and comprises a two-day classroom course at the Gastronomisches Bildungszentrum in Koblenz (14.09-15.09.2024) or at Weinladen Schmidt (29.07.-30.07.24) in Berlin. In order to take part, interested parties must first complete an English-language online course on the Comité Champagne website. The aim of the course is to train participants in advising, recommending, serving, selling and buying Champagne wines. It is aimed at wine merchants, sommeliers, restaurateurs, buyers, wine journalists, importers and students from the hotel and catering industry as well as the high-end specialist trade.
The content is divided into four sessions that bridge the gap between theoretical and practical expertise. The final examination is held in German and consists of two parts. The theoretical test comprises 30 multiple-choice questions and three open questions, as well as a practical test in which two wines must be tasted and presented. In order to receive the "Champagne Specialist (CIVC)" certificate, at least 55 per cent of the possible points must be achieved. The participation fee is 725 euros.
