Michelle Brampton succeeds Ian Harris as executive director of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) after 20 years. Harris will train the experienced wine manager until 15 April.

The London-based WSET offers internationally recognised training and qualifications in wine, spirits and sake on all continents.
Brampton worked for 19 years for Treasury Wine Estates (TWE), the parent company of Penfolds, as well as on the board of The Drinks Trust and the Wine & Spirit Trade Association (WSTA).
Under Ian Harris' leadership, the WSET experienced remarkable growth: when he took over the position in 2002, the WSET had 10,000 students a year, two-thirds of them from the UK. Currently, 108,000 students graduate in 70 countries, 87 per cent of whom are not from the UK. Completion of the WSET programme provides a foundation for the Master of Wine (MW) qualification, one of the highest qualifications in the wine world.
The WSET courses can be completed in Germany at the Weinakademie Deutschland and in Austria at the Weinakademie Österreich.
