As part of the Noviagri project, the Consorzio Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato has developed a sprayer that enables intelligent treatment management without wastage. The sprayer will subsequently use artificial intelligence to further optimise distribution to individual vines by detecting possible disease infestation itself. For Noviagri, numerous parameters have been collected in long-term studies that have to be taken into account in order to allow a precise treatment. The next step will be to perfect the associated app so that winegrowers can find out about the condition of the individual vines at any time from their mobile phones.

The new president Vitaliano Maccario of the Consorzio Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato, which represents 400 member wineries and 13 protected appellations with a vineyard area of more than 10,300 hectares, says: "Artificial intelligence represents the future and must be integrated into the artisanal skill that characterises the winemaker of this area; it is a tool that is fundamental and increasingly indispensable."
