The Spanish wine company Familia Torres takes over another winery in Galicia. The family from Penedès is expanding its production in the DO Rías Baixas with the purchase of a winery in Meaño in the province of Pontevedra. Already ten years ago, Torres invested in Galicia and brought the first Albariño, Pazo das Bruxas, to the market. Five years later, he took over the Pazo Torre Penelas winery, from which the top wine Blanco Granito comes. The newly acquired winery is located in the Salnés Valley and was founded in 1990 under the name Valdamor.

Familia Torres plans to start up the facilities in time for this year's harvest in order to increase Albariño production in the face of growing demand in countries like the USA, the most important export market for Pazo das Bruxas wine. The oenologist Víctor Cortizo, who also looks after the other two wineries in Galicia, is responsible for production. In addition, Familia Torres is expanding its Pazo Torre Penelas winery with a six-hectare vineyard in the Ribera do Ulla subzone. Another eight hectares are to follow in the Salnés Valley in 2023.

Miguel Torres Maczassek, managing director of Familia Torres, explains: "We have consolidated our project in the DO Rías Baixas over the past ten years without losing sight of the area, its history and its traditions. We are convinced of the great potential and international appeal of the region. The new winery will allow us to continue to grow in a sustainable way."
