The Burgundy Wine Producers Association (BIVB) has announced a strategic plan to become climate neutral by 2050. According to the BIVB, the "Objectif Climat" project takes into account all phases of the production chain: from work in the vineyard to winemaking, packaging and logistics.

The 3,600 wineries, 270 negociants and 16 cooperative wineries in Burgundy are to benefit from it and adopt the proposed recommendations in their work. One focus of the project is on reducing emissions in the supply chain. To this end, the BIVB is cooperating with the Paris-based waste management company Adelphe, which is to support the association with its know-how on eco-designs in the introduction of new, more environmentally friendly packaging. According to wine industry studies, packaging is responsible for about 30 to 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the entire value chain.

At the same time, Adelphe and the BIVB want to develop a concept for CO2 reduction and the development of biodiversity in the vicinity of wine-growing areas. The results from the Objectif Climat project will also be available to producers in other French regions.
