The TreTorri publishing house in Wiesbaden surprisingly renounces the publication of the wine guide "Der kleine Johnson 2023". TreTorri has been the German-language licensee of the English Octopus Publishing Group since 2021 for the wine guide published by Hugh Johnson, which is the most successful in the world with 12 million copies sold in 40 years. Octopus wants to have the book printed in Asia as before. According to publisher Ralf Frenzel, this contradicts the principles of TreTorri: "Printing in Asia with non-transparent information on production and working conditions and the precarious shipping situation, including incalculable costs, does not appear to us to be in keeping with the times," says a press release from the publisher. "We have our books produced locally. Unfortunately, our British partners were not willing to comply with our request to have the German edition of Little Johnson 2023 produced by a printer we trust."

TreTorri Publishing says it is committed to sustainability in recipe development, photo production and manufacturing processes. It wants to completely do without packaging films for books from summer 2022. Publisher Ralf Frenzel confirms this decision, "especially since Hugh Johnson will no longer be personally in charge of the coming edition in 2023". He appeals to other publishers to "continue to promote the issue of sustainability and to distance themselves further from printing processes in Asia and the shipping madness, also in view of the environmental debate". Whether "Little Johnson" will be published again in German in 2024 is currently open.
