The Heribert Bayer Winery - In Signo Leonis **** is the first Burgenland wine producer to release a German Riesling Kabinett. The "Große Gefühle" 2021 is dedicated to Linda, the daughter of winemaker Patrick Bayer, and comes from the Trittenheim region. In collaboration with Heiner Bollig, who also works as cellar master at Egon Müller-Scharzhof, Riesling grapes from the Trittenheimer Apotheke, Leiwener Laurentiuslay and Brauneberger Juffer sites were vinified into a Kabinett with around 35g/l residual sweetness and 10g/l acidity.

"As one of the few négociants in Austria, my top priority is to produce wines where I feel it is best for the grape variety. So, unlike the classic winemaker, we are not bound to certain regions and sites," Patrick Bayer explains the project, which is to be continued in the future. In doing so, he is realising one of his great wine passions: "In my opinion, the terroir of the Moselle provides the perfect conditions for a Riesling Kabinett. This combination of sweetness, acidity and minerality, as well as the terrific shelf life - that's what makes the Mosel so fascinating to me."

Of the slightly more than 1,000 bottles of the German quality wine produced, 180 were stored for the little Linda, of the rest, about a third is still available at the price of 29.40 euros. According to Bayer, the name "Große Gefühle" stands for "the greatest feeling on earth: Being a parent".
