Global sales of Champagne reached 326 million bottles last year. This corresponds to an increase of 1.6 per cent compared to 2021. Sales reached a value of more than six billion euros for the first time. While France recorded a slight decline in sales of minus 1.7 per cent with 138.4 million bottles, exports (EU and third countries) increased by 4.3 per cent. A total of 187.5 million bottles went abroad. The share of exports in total sales thus rose from 45 percent ten years ago to just over 57 percent today.

"I am delighted with these results. These figures reward all our efforts to make Champagne an exceptional wine," Maxime Toubart, President of the Syndicat Général des Vignerons and Co-President of the Comité Champagne, said of the positive year.

After a good harvest in terms of quality and quantity in 2022, the winegrowers of Champagne were optimistic about the future. Stocks can be filled and the increased demand after the pandemic can be met again.
