The Argentinean winery Zuccardi Valle de Uco at the foot of the Andes at an altitude of 1,000 metres was chosen as the most interesting wine tourism destination in the world in the "World's best vineyards 2020" competition. Bodega Garzón in Uruguay came second. In third place is Domäne Wachau in Austria, which was also voted the most worth seeing destination in Europe. The best destination in Germany is Schloss Johannisberg in the Rheingau in twelfth place, followed in 15th place by Weingut Dr. Loosen on the Moselle.

The annual competition is organised by the US specialist information group William Reed. A jury of more than 500 experts from all over the world, including sommeliers, wine professionals and tourism experts, evaluated the submitted proposals. Each of the 18 geographical regions was represented by 36 jury members. There is no defined catalogue of criteria for this competition. The jury evaluated the wine landscape and its viewpoints, the architecture of the winery, the uniqueness and quality of the wines produced, the standard of the restaurants and the special features such as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
