World wine production will reach between 253.9 million and 262.2 million hectolitres in 2020, again below the five-year average. This is reported by the OIV. The reason for this is the low yield in South America and production limitations due to the drop in sales caused by the corona crisis in Europe. With the average OIV estimate of around 258 million hectolitres, 2020 is the second year in succession in which global wine production is below the average. In 2018, however, it almost reached a new record high.

In the southern growing countries, however, yields fell significantly: Argentina recorded 19 percent less than in 2019, Chile's harvest was 13 percent lower and Australia eleven percent lower than in the previous year.
