27 German gastronomy and system gastronomy entrepreneurs as well as the editor-in-chief of the trade journal "Food service" want to prevent the closure of pubs and restaurants in the event of a possible second lockdown with a fire letter to Chancellor Angela Merkel. In it, the signatories declare: "In the current second wave of the Corona pandemic, gastronomy has never been a source of infection. Gastronomy is subject to strict regulations, filters the air and is closely monitored. The sources of infection are primarily private gatherings without a hygiene concept and control." They stress that if the gastronomy sector were to be closed, "people would increasingly meet in private surroundings - the current hotspot of the pandemic". This has the potential to generate new "superspreading events".
