Winery City of Frankfurt
Image header

The city of Frankfurt am Main, Germany's fifth-largest city with a population of around 775,000, is leasing its vineyard again from 1 January 2026. The package includes 22 hectares of vineyards, the partly listed 18th century estate building with production hall and wine cellar and an estate tavern in Hochheim am Main. In Frankfurt am Main, 1.3 hectares of vineyards on the Lohrberger Hang as well as the vinotheque in the historic city centre and the Weinstube am Römer on the Römerberg are included. Technical equipment or furniture are not leased. There is no customer base, but all city offices and companies are encouraged to buy from the winery. However, the majority of the vineyards are to be cleared and replanted in the coming years, according to the tender. Organic farming, sustainability and diversity play a major role here. The lease term is 30 years.

According to the city, it is looking for a tenant "who pays a fair market rent and manages the vineyard in an economically sustainable manner. The vineyards should be cultivated in an ecologically sustainable manner in accordance with good professional practice." The tenant should "contribute positive effects to city marketing and to the city's profile". The vineyard has been owned by the city of Frankfurt am Main since 1803 and has been leased since 1994. Interested parties can view the terms and conditions of the concept competition here.
