On Saturday, 7 April 2018, the largest wine fair in the Palatinate opens in Speyer with "Wein am Dom". The two-day tasting offer this year includes around 1,000 wines from 168 Palatinate businesses. Around the World Cultural Heritage Site of St. Mary's Cathedral, the winegrowers present their products at locations with a special flair. For the first time, the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), like the five other venues in Speyer's historic old town, will be the presentation venue.

The focus of the wine presentation is the new vintage. 462 wines from the 2017 harvest are represented. Among the varietal wines, Riesling dominates with 190 wines. In addition, 121 cuvées are to be tasted. Samples from ten different Palatinate soil types will be on display in the Old Town Hall. Wine lovers can thus taste the differences between the soil structures of the vineyards using exemplary Rieslings.

For the organiser Pfalzwein e.V., the grape variety Silvaner, which was named "Grape Variety of the Year 2018", plays a prominent role this year. 39 wines of this variety are available at "Wein am Dom". St. Laurent, of which 44 wines can be tasted, will also be highlighted. On the Saturday of the fair, a sommelier jury will present its "Discoveries of the Year" from among the wines of these varieties.

The two-day wine fair will open on Saturday, 7 April 2018, at 12:30 pm in front of the Historic Town Hall. On the evening of the first day of the fair, the young talents of "Generation Pfalz" will pour their wines at the "Wine Grooves" enjoyment party at "Philipp eins" with tracks by DJ Flö.
