The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) has admitted two new members: Erin Jolley MW from the USA and Andrea Lonardi MW from Italy. Jolley lives in Miami, Florida, where she runs an import business for French wines. Her research examined wine references in the lyrics of folk and rock musicians Bob Dylan and The Grateful Dead in songs from the 1960s and 1970s.

Among other things, Lonardi was viticultural director of Gruppo Italiano Vini (GIV), Italy's largest wine company, responsible for over 1,000 hectares and 13 wineries from the Alps to Sicily. Today, he manages the operational business of Angelini Wines and Estates. In his research paper, he looked at how labour demand and current challenges are affecting the choice of vine-growing system in Valpolicella.

Since 1953, only 502 people have achieved the title of Masters of Wine; currently 414 hold it. For comparison and to emphasise the exclusivity of this award, the IMW stresses that more people have been in space, namely 656.
