Thousands of hectares of forest and bush are currently burning in many parts of Europe. In France alone, around 20,000 hectares have gone up in flames since June, many of them near vineyards. How these and the resulting wines are affected by smoke, extinguishing water and extinguishing agents is now to be investigated. This is what the National Association of Mandate Holders for Viticulture and Wine (ANEV) demands. As a spokeswoman of the association said, there are more and more fires in all wine-growing areas, and they would become even more frequent in the future due to global warming. However, there was currently no French study on the effects of this on viticulture. Therefore, it is important that the government supports and finances a large-scale initiative of researchers and academics to better understand the consequences.
