30-year-old Mathias Weber from Sankt Stefan ob Stainz in western Styria is the winner of the "Schlossquadrat Trophy", Austria's most popular young winemaker competition. He can now call himself "Wine Talent 2024". In the high-calibre final of the trophy, which is organised by Österreich Wein Marketing (ÖWM) and the Schlossquadrat restaurants in Vienna, Weber came out on top in a jury and public vote against Matthäus Hirschbüchler, Florian Adam-Lieleg, Christopher Perepatics, Alexander Schabel and Daniel Pfeifer. wein.plus Editor Alexander Lupersböck presented all finalists with a one-year Business Premium membership of wein.plus.

Weber graduated from the technical college for viticulture and fruit growing in Silberberg and the HBLA Klosterneuburg. This was followed by internships at Weingut Peter Skoff and Feindestillerie Hochstrasser. In 2017, he took over the third generation of the family business, which cultivates seven hectares of vineyards itself and processes eleven hectares. In Focus varieties are Gelber Muskateller, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Schilcher. Weber works herbicide- and insecticide-free and also wants to expand the in the future business to include "promising white wine varieties". wein.plus will portray the young winemaker in a news advertorial.
