The sale of still wines in the French retail sector has decreased by 4.3 percent from August 2023 to August 2024. According to the market research institute Circana, the value also fell by 1.8 percent. In retail, 8.1 million hectoliters were sold. This corresponds to a total value of around 4.45 billion euros.
Both bottles (-4.5%) and bag-in-boxes (-3.7%) were affected. Red wines saw the largest decline (-7.2%), followed by rosé wines (-3.4%) and white wines (-0.2%). With the exception of wines from Burgundy, which managed a slight increase (+0.8%), all appellations suffered from weak demand. Wines from Languedoc-Roussillon were purchased 8.1 percent less, Beaujolais 7.9 percent less, and Bordeaux 7.1 percent less.
