A new, recyclable and particularly light Bordeaux-style wine bottle has been introduced by Green Gen Technologies from France. It weighs only 130 grams including the capsule and closure and is constructed similarly to a Bag-in-Box. Inside the cardboard shell, which is made of plant fibers, there is a plastic bag that contracts depending on the fill level. According to the manufacturer, the bottle offers good protection against light and temperature fluctuations and is impermeable to oxygen and carbon dioxide.

The empty bottle can be easily separated into its plastic and cardboard components for proper disposal. The LVMH-supported startup Green Gen Technologies describes its development as one of the "lowest CO2-emission solutions for wine packaging" and reports purchase inquiries for 1.6 million bottles, which will be delivered starting October 15. The bottle costs between 0.70 and 0.90 euros ex works in Bergerac and can be customized for orders of 1,600 pieces at an additional cost. Glass packaging accounts for up to 40 percent of the CO2 balance of wineries.
