Messe Düsseldorf is postponing ProWein 2022 due to the Corona developments by Omikron. In response to an enquiry at wein.plus, press spokeswoman Monika Kissing said that due to the current Corona situation, those responsible at the fair are currently "examining all possibilities to postpone the fair from March to May". The fair was scheduled to open its doors between 27 and 29 March 2022. To this end, she emphasised: "Cancelling ProWein is still not an option." The definitive decision will be made by the end of the coming week at the latest. "At the moment, several dates in May are under discussion," Kissing explained.

So far, the organisers had planned to expand the fair by three to 13 halls in order to make enough space between the stands possible and to equalise the flow of visitors. In addition, exhibitors, staff and visitors were to be required to wear masks throughout the fair. Removal would only be permitted for tasting.

A few days ago, the public fairs "Internationale Tourismusbörse" (ITB) and "Boot" in Düsseldorf had already been cancelled. The covid incidence in the city was 692 on 13.1. One of the reasons for the postponement is also the uncertainty of many exhibitors and trade visitors to come to Düsseldorf. In some countries outside Europe, as well as in Asia and China, they are also subject to strict quarantine regulations after their return.

Unlike fairs open to the public, trade fairs are also allowed to open in North Rhine-Westphalia with more than 750 visitors. According to information from the Ausstellungs- und Messe-Ausschuss der Deutschen Wirtschaft e.V. (Exhibition and Trade Fair Committee of German Business), a current rapid test is currently sufficient for admission, unlike in the catering industry with its strict 2G plus rules. Vaccinated trade fair visitors with proof of admission ticket and appointment confirmations from high-risk countries are also exempt from quarantine. This even applies to unvaccinated visitors to the fair if they are not staying in Germany for more than five days for the Prowein.
