The Calabrian winemaker and entrepreneur Nicodemo Librandi has died in Cosenza at the age of 78. After his studies, he dedicated himself to the Librandi family winery in Cirò Marina together with his brother Antonio and built it up into the largest wine company in his region. He relied early on the autochthonous grape varieties Mantonico, Magliocco and Gaglioppo, which made the name Librandi known worldwide. The wines "Magno Megonio", "Duca San Felice", "Efeso", and the white wine "Gravello" are his most important labels.

Nicodemo Librandi was a far-sighted pioneer and ambassador of his region. The fact that Calabria today stands for high-quality wines is mainly thanks to him and his research. As recently as May 2023, the University of Reggio Calabria awarded him an honorary doctorate in agricultural, food and forestry sciences for his tireless commitment. Nicodemo, known as "Professore", had already handed over the management of the Librandi company to his sons Raffaele and Paolo and his grandsons Francesco, Teresa, Walter and Daniela a few years ago, who continue to run it in his spirit.
