The digital NFT for the right to one of 100 numbered bottles of Ahr flood wine has achieved the proceeds of 30,000 euros at auction. This was a new record price for a young German wine on the anniversary of the flood disaster in the Ahr. The money will go to the association "AHR - A wine region needs Help for Rebuilding e.V.".
For the initiators of the "flood wine" fundraising campaign, Daniel Koller and Peter Kriechel, who is also the chairman of the Ahrwein e.V. regional association, the auction represents an important step into the metaverse, which is to shape the reconstruction and future of the area: "In this way, we want to contribute both to longer-term support for the Ahr wine producers and to a repositioning of the Ahr as a particularly innovative wine region," says Kriechel.
In August, the memorial "museum of modern ahrts" will be opened. It tells the story of the flood night with objects that are also preserved as NFTs in the blockchain. It is to become the centre of the new "Ahr metaverse". In it, a permanent space will also be given to the great aid movement SolidAHRität, which united vintners in Germany and Europe.
NFTs are unique digital assets that have value in the form of cryptocurrency (tokens). Ownership of these assets is managed and tracked on a distributed public database ("blockchain"). NFTs cannot be duplicated or shared, so they are tamper-proof. The metaverse is a nexus of the virtual and real worlds. Real people can meet and interact in a computer-generated virtual world.
