The Michelin tire company, which owns the Guide Michelin restaurant guide, has bought a 40 percent stake in Robert Parker's "Wine Advocate". Michelin has confirmed this in a press release. "The reputation of both media, based on long proven testing methods, as well as their complete independence is recognized worldwide," said Alexandre Taisne, CEO Food and Travel Business of Michelin. From 2019, both companies plan to offer "new services in Europe, USA and Asia", he added. He did not give any further details. He said Parker should give Michelin Guide Michelin readers "new and unique moments" to enjoy. The Group and Robert Parker did not provide any details about the purchase price.

The two media have already been working together since 2016 in Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau to organize tastings and restaurant events. Parker has been operating its "Wine Advocate for 39 years, the tasting database currently contains notes on around 300,000 wines. He sold the majority of his company to investors in Singapore in 2012.
