According to the United Hail Insurance Company, heavy frost in the first days of May caused serious damage to vineyards in the Moselle, Saar and Ruwer regions. This was reported by "Der Deutsche Weinbau". The temperature had dropped to just under minus four degrees Celsius at night, affecting mainly vines in depressions and young plants. In some areas, the winegrowers suffered losses of up to 100 percent. The exact amount of damage cannot yet be determined, however, as it remains to be seen whether the vines will sprout spurious eyes that will compensate for the damage.
