The Catalan organic vineyard Jean Leon, owned by Torres, has initiated a three-year research project to record the CO2 absorption capacity of the vineyard soil together with scientists from the CREAF Institute. In the first step, the experts have started to determine different types of grasses and plants on four different vineyard sections, which are to be sown later. Afterwards, the CO2 concentration in the soil is to be measured in order to compare it with the respective bound CO2 amounts after sowing the different combinations. Jean Leon is responsible for vineyard management and sowing in the project. The team wants to find out which subsoils, which soil management and which vegetation offer the highest efficiency.

The background to the project is various scientific studies in which the effectiveness of CO2 sequestration by vineyards and their soil has been proven.
